Three years ago, we recorded this video and never posted it. The platform wasn't even called Hafrik yet. It was FLIC, a simple idea to build a community app for foreigners living in China 🇨🇳 In front of the camera, Rejoice and Success, two people who believed in the vision before the vision even had a name. Behind the camera, Andrew shooting it, Lolade holding things together, and myself figuring out what we were even building. We didn't post it because honestly, we were still becoming. The name changed. The vision grew. What started as "let's help foreigners in China connect" turned into something much bigger. We discovered that Africans specifically, whether trading from Lagos, studying in Guangzhou, or building a life in Yiwu, had no real infrastructure built for them. No trusted platform. No community backbone. No one on the ground solving their actual problems. So FLIC became Hafrik. And Hafrik became the operating system for Africans abroad. We're posting this now three years later not because it's perfect. But because every big thing starts somewhere small, uncertain, and unpolished. This was ours. One thing I learnt that shook me way too vigorously within is this... "If your life was a movie, and you were watching yourself now, would you be glad about what you're doing, and what would you be doing differently?" Yeah I nearly cried 💔, nevertheless it pushed me to start reading more, and develop certain skills, and I must say, if we all, mostly young African can ask ourselves just this question, it would make a great change, what do you think??? #Diaspora #Community

Less than 24 hours to launch. On the 13th, we made the decision to push forward and officially launch the full native Hafrik app. Since then, it’s been intense. Not just building and fixing things, but constantly thinking: Are we doing this the right way? Is there anything we’re missing? Can this be better? One thing I’ve learned through this process: Clarity doesn’t come before you start. It comes as you build. The more you build, the clearer the vision becomes. The clearer the direction becomes. But even with that clarity, there’s still a certain pressure that comes with bringing something real into the world. Especially when you know people are going to depend on it. The past two weeks have also come with challenges, especially with app store approvals. It hasn’t been smooth. But we’re here now. And we’re ready. Hafrik is more than just an app. It’s a platform built to connect people to opportunities, services, and a community, starting from China and expanding globally. If everything goes as planned, we go live very soon. Let’s see how it unfolds.

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about building, growth, and direction. Over the past few years, I’ve moved countries, built products, started companies, made mistakes, learned hard lessons, met amazing people, and started building something bigger than I initially planned.
