  • New in China? Don't let a scam be your welcome gift 🚨

Many of us learned these the hard way. Here's what to watch for:

1️⃣ "Agents" who want a big deposit before you've seen the house. View it in person, and only pay against a signed contract.
2️⃣ Suppliers whose prices are far below everyone else's. Visit the shop or factory, or use a trusted agent, before you pay.
3️⃣ Anyone offering a "special visa" or work permit shortcut. Only trust official channels.
4️⃣ Strangers asking you to receive money or parcels for them. Say no.
5️⃣ Fake currency exchange deals on WeChat. Use banks or trusted platforms.
6️⃣ Pressure to "pay now or lose the deal." Real deals can wait a day.

When in doubt, ask people who live here. On Hafrik you can check a business or ask your city Space before you send a single yuan.

Stay safe, and share this with someone new πŸ™

  • New African students just landed in China, real talk: register with police within 24 hours of moving, don't skip it, fines are no joke. Get WeChat Pay linked immediately, cash is basically useless now. Learn 50 basic Mandarin phrases before you even land, campus life gets lonely fast without it. Don't overstay your visa hoping to 'sort it later.' Build a squad of seniors from your country, they'll save you from scams and bad landlords. China's good to you if you respect the system.

  • China’s New Exit-Entry Rules Take Effect September 15, 2026 – What Foreigners Need to Know

China’s State Council has issued new Regulations on Exit and Entry Administration (Order No. 841). They come into force on 15 September 2026.

    Key changes for foreigners:

    • Providing false materials or making false statements on a visa or entry application can now result in a 1–5 year entry ban.

    • Common violations include: fake invitation letters, falsified education/work documents, concealing a previous stay in China, or claiming tourism when the real purpose is business/work.

    • Anyone who issues a false invitation letter or supporting documents can be fined RMB 5,000–10,000 (individuals) or RMB 10,000–50,000 (companies), plus confiscation of illegal profits.

    • Immigration consultants and visa agents in China face stricter registration and heavier penalties (fines, suspension, or licence revocation).

The rules mainly codify existing practices and close loopholes. Ordinary tourists and genuine business travellers following the rules should not be affected.

Stay accurate, avoid fake documents, and apply for the correct visa category.

  • Yesterday was one of those days when China's visa rules feel like a riddle wrapped in a puzzle πŸ”πŸ€·‍♂️. I went to the visa application center to help a friend who's been trying to get a new visa, and let me tell you, the place is buzzing like a beehive! So many people, so many papers and photos, and the line was longer than the queue at the chop bar on a Friday night πŸ˜….

One guy, Ahmed was his name, shared his story as he kiddingly ranted about how he had to reapply for his visa - again. They tell you one thing in the consulate when you're applying, and another when you show up with the exact same documents. Humbled him enough to treat us all to a round of drinks later on πŸ₯‚.

On the bright side, it seems there's a fresh batch of ease-ups in immigration news for some types of visas. Heard whispers of quicker processing times – which is music to our ears, medaase! Just remember, in China, a day in immigration news can change your plans faster than you can say 'Ataaloe!'. Keep your documents tight, and check those new rules before your visa interview date, or you'll find yourself at the chop bar more frequent than you would like. Cheers to hoping we all get to stay a little longer in this land of mystery πŸ€.

  • My people, I just had to share my experience yesterday. I completed dey plan sef for how to relocate back to Naija from this China place I dey. Dem say make I no worry o, but wetin I go do without my family and all the jollof and akara wey I no go find here again?πŸ˜‚πŸ‘¨‍πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§‍πŸ‘¦ How far, life be like that - always moving, no wahala.

This week, I ran into a fellow Nigerian who just came back from home. E be like say seeing him was a mirror showing me the way home. He nearly almost shed crocodile tears when he was telling me about the excitement of hearing his local dialect again and just the sense of belonging. I swear I felt something inside me when I heard that story.

Na so I ask am, how far with the relocation process? He told me all about visas and the hassle he had to deal with - from finding local agents, to sorting out his documents. πŸ“šπŸ“‘ Personally, I jot down every single advice he gave me and took screenshots on my phone.

Looking at the timeline and everything, it's no bee like ten over ten (10/10). Ma life for China dey improve bit by bit, but I think about going back home sef. It made me think about all the opportunities waiting for me. Any advice on choosing the right agent? I practically want to start packing already! πŸ“¦πŸš’

  • Yo fam, got a story for y'all. Remember when I mentioned we're throwing down trying to launch our own flippers brand? Well, this week I had this real wow moment.
Dropped by a warehouse outside of Guangzhou to check on some shipments. And there he was, Ali, our go-to man for logistics on this side. Turns out he's been hustling on the side, selling African fabrics here in China for the past 2 years. Had no idea.
What struck me the most was his story: He started with like a 2k (that's not currency, it's 2,000 pieces) stock of fabric, now ships thousands monthly to vendors in Chengdu, Zhengzhou, all over. No English, faced numerous visa issues, but kept pushing.
