  • No, Your International License Won't Save You: The Real Rules on Getting a Chinese Driver's License
Let's kill a rumor going around a lot of African WeChat groups right now: there is no city in China where you can just walk into the Vehicle Management Office and skip the written test because you're African. The mutual-recognition deals China currently has only cover a handful of countries — France, Serbia, Belgium, and the UAE — plus Hong Kong licenses, which convert without any...

  • Little Africa Eats: Where GZ's African Community Actually Goes for Jollof, Suya & Grocery Runs
Forget the tourist lists — this is where the community actually eats. Xiaobei (exit Line 5, look for the pedestrian overpass) is still the beating heart, an area where Africans can be found speaking Arabic, Bambara, French, Portuguese, Lingala, Malagasy, Yoruba or Igbo. For grilled fish and cheap suds, regulars head to Moustache Bar — a popular hangout amongst African expats and...

  • Navigating Guangzhou's Xiaobei Market: A Street-by-Street Guide to African Grocery Stores, Hair Suppliers, and Halal Eateries
If you have ever stepped off the metro at Xiaobei station and walked up into the open air, you already know the feeling. The smell of grilled suya mixing with fresh bread from a Yemeni bakery, Lingala and Wolof and Arabic all bouncing off each other in the same five metres of pavement, a Nigerian aunty haggling over the price of stockfish while a Guinean trader counts out yuan for a bag of...

  • Live Stream = Illegal Working?
Making money from live streams in China as a foreigner?
    It's possible.
🚫 However, most foreign influencers are doing it illegally.
Tourist visa, student visa, Q1 family visa — NONE let you work.
Live streaming for money IS work, according to Article 41 of the Exit & Entry Law.
What happens if you get caught?
    • ¥5,000 - ¥20,000 fine
    • 5-15 days detention
    • Deportation
    • 1-5 YEAR entry ban
💰 You also MUST pay Chinese taxes.
All income from streams in China is China-source income.
Tax rate: 20%-40% on labor payments.
Platforms must withhold tax — but if they don't, it's still YOUR problem.
🏢 You can't register as a solo business.
Foreigners can't be 个体户 (individual proprietors).
MCN companies have foreign investment restrictions too.
✅ 3 steps to do it legally:
    -Get a Z visa + work permit
-Sign with a licensed platform or MCN
-Let them handle your tax withholding
Don't risk your life in China over a side hustlem
