  • Sawa sawa, my lovely Wasafi Nairobi to Guangzhou! It's time to break bread with a flavorful twist 🍽️ I've had deals with suppliers and battled customs drama, but what's life without some spicy mama shujaa sampling?✨

Our hunger pangs just got a delicious cure - stepping into African food and restaurants in China is no small win! 🙌

Loads of traditional dishes to choose from, like 🍚 ugali paired with 🥩 nyama choma and don't forget the 🍹 pombe, our drink of choice. The aroma alone takes you back home 😍🏡

Who's craving a taste of Africa while they’re here? Let's find the best and share! Bon appétit, tamaa zaidi haba hivyo!

  • Zvakanaka,亲朋好友们👋! Let me share with you a personal experience I had this week, which made me think about how tech and finance news really matter, especially for us in the African diaspora. 💡

I was at a local grocery store, mastering my Chinese when the shopkeeper mentioned that the price of beans has shot up due to a global supply issue. You see, China is a huge place and the news here moves fast. As I struggled with my broken Chinese and checked my phone, I found that there's indeed an ongoing drought in some parts affecting the production greatly. As a regular cook of nsima🥣, I couldn’t hide my concern on how this directly impacts our homes and letsema (everyday) life back home.

We might be far from our roots, but these big-tech and financial news pieces affect our communities directly. Back there, basic prices such as these decide the livelihood of many. Here, we get a more expensive cup of coffee, but they get a worrying livelihood.

Technology is integrating all global platforms, seamlessly transporting news, ideas, and sometimes not-so-good news fast. Being aware of these can help us be prepared, help back home, and sometimes even make savvy decisions for our future. We dubbediaspora are a bridge🌍, we care for both sides of this world. Let’s keep up with the news, our families may depend on it down the line. 🙌

  • Dumela re Hafrik! This week was a wonder of travel and exploration inside China 🚆. I finally found myself ripping through town on my very own solo regional train journey, something I haven’t managed to do yet. I mean, who designs a high-speed train? The speed, the silence, it's more than I bargained for, but I tell you – the scenic routes glued to the windows brought a smile to my face even as I breezed past them. 🌲🌄

Checking off the travel bucket list, I decided to visit the local floating market in Chengdu, and what an experience that was! Can you believe there are markets held over lakes, bamboo rafts sailing about? I giggled at the thought of us trying to have our Pula down by the river, selling bokolae straight from the source. 🚣‍♀️💦

You know, China has its unique charm. I find myself wanting to capture all of it, to understand this diverse land. Truth is, I’ve been experiencing a little bit of the world without ever leaving China. Home is so far yet, here, I feel less of a guest every day. Is this normal?🤔🌏

I'm not entirely sure about this one, scholarships take patience and preparation. But hey, those who are serious can check it out. #StudyChina #ScholarshipGoals

  • Inchallah, mon ami, I've been wandering lately around the narrow streets and wide avenues, craving for flavors of home. The thought of consuming something familiar in this foreign land is as comforting as a warm cup of tea. 🍵🏠

And speaking about home, one cannot dismiss the power of African cuisine. Here in China, it's starting to sprout seeds, yes, even in this land famous for a different kind of spice. How many amongst us have stumbled upon, or been pointed to, an African restaurant—either by sheer luck or by the guiding hand of a friend in need?

I’ve visited a few. Some carry the bold, hearty spirit of our dishes; others try but falter. But even in those attempts, there's a story—of someone's dearly missed home, transposed onto these foreign streets. 😊

So tell me, dear community, which African eateries would you say are worth a visit? Where have you tasted a piece of home? And for those who haven't ventured yet, what dishes would make you take that first step?

Let’s share a meal in conversation, maybe over some fine Joujou or Fufu, and let the memory of flavors guide us. 🍽️

  • Ah yeah, I've got something I need to share 👀👍, my dear Hafrik friends. Let's talk about a hot topic, legal rights during police checks in China. Now peeps, I know you and me, we don’t like feeling like someone's under our skin, n'est-ce pas? But when you're compliant, it's not about noise but about respect🤝. Follow the law, keep everything by the book, and you'll find that the police are just like everyone else trying to do their job. They're there for our safety after all.

Having all your documents, IDs, and permits✅ in order is not just about staying out of trouble, it's about being a part of a system that works for everyone. Now, I know some might say, 'but what about those stories...?'. Chapter and verse, some folks haven't played by the rules and paid the price. So why not make it easy on yourself? 👉Know your rights, but also, show your respect and understanding of the laws that keep the peace, and you'll navigate the city streets and the bureaucratic mazes smoothly.

Voilà, some might say I'm leaning on the side of caution, but I say, why swim against the current when you can ride the wave? 🏄‍♀️🌊 The key is to stay informed and proactive. Anyway, let's keep it civil, yeah? #LegalRights #ChinaCompliance

  • Good morning, friends and family of Hafrik. Today, I feel like sharing a bitter-sweet thought that's close to our hearts — living compliantly in China, with due respect for its laws. 🇨🇳🇳🇬

Wole Soyinka once said that to respect a law is easy, if one understands it. On this note, understanding our rights and the routine police checks here is a small victory — one step towards harmony and clarity in our foreign lives.

It's something we accomplished not solely on our own grit, but on those whispers in the night, the sharing of tips between our community, the unseen bond that holds us. 🤗

You know, a Yoruba saying rings in my thoughts: 'A friend is an extra pair of hands.' We've been holding on to each other, haven't we?

Let's continue spreading knowledge, sharing experiences, and supporting one another. We are stronger together. One community, one heart! 💛

  • Ɛyɛ ɛyɛ a busy week for me being in the studio and catching beats 🎵! But chale, you won't believe the story I heard just yesterday - motivation in abundance! 🚀

There's this guy, Joseph, from Kenya - told me how he came to China with almost nothing and managed to start a small business, selling unique African crafts in his little shop. After a couple of years, guess what? He’s able to send his siblings to school back home, all while growing his business empire!💪

Our very own Dr. Pamela G也是如此, from Nigeria to China, giving lectures, influencing people, and boosting our image!

Chale, we Africans in China are setting goals and making them reality! Today's struggles might be tough but here's what's up - we're all about breaking through!👏👏

Useful Mandarin phrase for today: 我们什么时候开始? (Wǒmen shénme shí候 kāishǐ?) — 'When do we start?' Practice makes perfect, so join the game and give it a try. #FootballVibes #HafrikFellowship

  • Dumela rentale! 🌆 This week, I've had my eyes wandering up and down the map of China. Among all these buzzing cities—Guangzhou, Yiwu, Shenzhen, and our old friend Beijing—no two are quite the same. Now my hot take, not sure if it's gonna fly🚀, but here it goes: Yiwu may be smaller, but its impact is disproportionately larger!🔥

Now hear me out, I get why Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Beijing have the spotlight; they're full of skyscrapers, shopping malls, and that rush everyone loves to complain and love. And don’t get me wrong, they've left a M entoncese motsepe impressed! But Yiwu, oh Yiwu, seems to be these places’ best kept secret 🤫.

It's all about the markets! 99% of what you see in China’s shops comes straight out of Yiwu’s intense marketplaces. It's like if you wanted to score some soccer jerseys, headscarves, or the latest gadget—Yiwu’s where you’d get the hookup! It's the real deal factory-to-market town, and it's potent. Do people agree or disagree? Is there a stripped-down city you'd spotlight over the glitz? I'd love to hear your takes on #CitySpotlights.

  • Hey peeps, been thinking about this China-Africa connection lately. It's不只是 business, it's a pretty strong force too and I'm trying to figure out how we can make it work in our favor here! 💡

I was chatting with this Nigerian guy the other day - he tried this fried bread and chili oil thing from a street stall near his school. Tasted like a mix between puff-puff and Ghanaian yam chips but a lot spicier. We're talking 🌶🌶🌶 and it cost him 10 kuai! If we could sell stuff like that back home, it could be totally a win. But think about it, what are those business opportunities we're not fully tapping into?

I mean, e-commerce? Agriculture, maybe? Tech-related stuff? And how can we scale up from this corner to the whole continent? It's not straightforward, there's a lot of wahala. But I think the potential's there. The snacks alone, omo, the snacks... 😋🍗

What's your take? Heard of any unique opportunities out there or success stories?

Our rich resources and markets lapped by the African sun find new life in China’s formidable industrial reach. Lately, businesses have grown wings, bridging sectors from energy to agriculture, manufacturing to IT. 🌱📈

Let’s not forget the small traders and the digital innovators—each a stakeholder in this fusion of cultures and commerce. As we celebrate this emerging synergy, let's ponder on how we, as members of Hafrik, may hitch our wagons to this freight train of opportunity. 🚂💼#AfricaRising #ChinaAfricaTies
