  • Being polite has never been this awkward... or this funny.
The next time someone thanks you, try the Panda way: "NO NEED THANK."
It’s about humility. It’s about logic. It’s about being Lost in Chinglish.

Music Suggestion: Something upbeat but chill (Lofi Chinese Hip-hop).

Action: Click the link in bio to start your Chinglish journey!

  • Level up your confidence with the ultimate Chinese "Flex."

Forget the standard English textbooks. If you want to tell someone a task is super easy, just drop this legendary line:
"SMALL DISH ONE PLATE" (Xiǎo cài yì dié - ε°θœδΈ€η’Ÿ)

    The Logic:

In the West: You compare a task to a slice of cake. 🍰

In China: We compare it to a side dish that's so light and crunchy, you can finish it in one bite.

In our latest Lost in Chinglish episode, the Panda Master shows us how to handle any challenge with zero stress. Because why overthink when it’s just... one small plate?

But our Panda boss has a different perspective: "Old One No Go, New One No Come." (ζ—§ηš„δΈεŽ»οΌŒζ–°ηš„δΈζ₯). It’s about making space for something better.

  • What's that one hubby you have that you think people don't value that much, and maybe you're from an African background that does not appreciate things that may not bring in money/status as real talent should, share with us, you might just find someone with such a passion

  • Hey, let's work on something πŸ’―, now for a minute imagine this; there this one thing, just one thing, that you can do to improve your life, mind, relationship, spirit, voice, ideology, mindset, anything positive, and if you do these things, in the next 1 to 3 months you would love your self/life more, whatever it is don't wait till any other date, starts it now, start with whatever you have or know, break a leg, bruise a chin, just control what you can now and focus on the goal, beautiful things take effort!

  • Building has tested me in ways I never expected.

As CEO, tech lead, product thinker, problem solver, and sometimes the person holding everything together mentally, it has not been easy.

There were moments of excitement, but also frustration.
From dealing with Apple challenges and technical roadblocks, to handling life itself while still trying to build something meaningful.

People often see startups from the outside and think it’s just about launches, funding, or big wins.
What they don’t see are the sleepless nights, the uncertainty, the pressure, and the discipline it takes to keep going when things are not moving the way you hoped.

But despite everything, I’m still here.
    Still building.
    Still learning.
Still believing in what Hafrik can become.

This journey is shaping me as much as I’m shaping the company.

To every founder, builder, engineer, designer, or dreamer carrying weight behind the scenes, I see you.

    We keep going.

  • WhatsApp/Instagram/Google in China – What’s working for you?

Just arrived or planning a trip? Here’s the real deal on staying connected:

    The Block
WhatsApp, Instagram, Google (Maps, Gmail, Drive), Facebook, and X are blocked here without a stable connection tool. Don’t panic—it’s manageable.

    What actually works:
WeChat = Everything (chat, pay, mini-apps, life)
Baidu Maps > Google Maps for local navigation (Chinese/English available)
Outlook/Hotmail usually works without issues for email
Bing works for search (international version)
Apple Maps works if you have iPhone

    Pro tips:
    - Download a VPN before you arrive (if you go that route—test a few, they vary by city/ISP)
    - International roaming: from your home SIM sometimes bypasses blocks (but check data costs!)
    - Alipay or WeChat Pay are essential—way more important than Instagram access

    My question to you:
What’s your setup? VPN, roaming, or full "going local" with Chinese apps? Any apps surprisingly working better than expected?

Drop your tips below for the new arrivals!

  • Three years ago, we recorded this video and never posted it.
The platform wasn't even called Hafrik yet. It was FLIC, a simple idea to build a community app for foreigners living in China
In front of the camera, Rejoice and Success, two people who believed in the vision before the vision even had a name.
Behind the camera, Andrew shooting it, Lolade holding things together, and myself figuring out what we were even building.
We didn't post it because honestly, we were still becoming.
The name changed. The vision grew. What started as "let's help foreigners in China connect" turned into something much bigger. We discovered that Africans specifically, whether trading from Lagos, studying in Guangzhou, or building a life in Yiwu, had no real infrastructure built for them. No trusted platform. No community backbone. No one on the ground solving their actual problems.
    So FLIC became Hafrik.
And Hafrik became the operating system for Africans abroad.
We're posting this now three years later not because it's perfect. But because every big thing starts somewhere small, uncertain, and unpolished. This was ours.
To Rejoice, Success, Andrew, Lolade, and everyone who was in that room thank you for showing up before it made sense to. πŸ™πŸΎ

  • Reading @Akanbi Samuel's piece on Intensity vs. Intimacy really stopped me in my tracks today. That line about the "Engine vs. Firework" hit hard—are we building something that needs maintenance, or just lighting matches and watching the show?

It made me think about how easy it is to mistake speed for substance. Anyone can plan a future with you in their head, but who’s actually showing up to tune the engine when it’s just regular Tuesday maintenance?

It’s really worth the read: https://hafrik.com/posts/19897

What's one "maintenance moment" that actually made your relationship stronger?

  • Intensity is not intimacy.
If someone is talking about marriage before they know your favorite book, or if they love your "eyes" but don't respect your "values," be careful. A real relationship is an Engine that needs constant tuning, not just a Firework that looks bright for five seconds and then disappears.

  • FEED POST: The "Small Change" Trap
Taobao is calling, but your bank account is screaming.
In China, everything is "cheap" until you add it all up. Are you spending on your Future or just your Feed?
The 300 vs 250 Rule: I used to run out of food money spending 300 RMB. Then I learned to portion my meat and write a timetable. Now, 250 RMB lasts longer than 300 used to!
The 1 RMB Illusion: 0.9 RMB feels like nothing. But 10 of those "nothings" is a meal gone. Watch the small coins.
Needs over Flash: Electricity and a good blanket beat "room design" and new shoes every time.
Your budget is your freedom. Don't trade it for something flashy.

  • So I’m currently in Guangzhou, and something interesting happened today.

I went out to eat with a friend. He kept insisting on this particular spot, like “this place is really good, you’ll like it.” But I was also pushing for somewhere else.

Funny thing is, we’ve both actually tried each other’s spots before.
He’s been to mine and didn’t like it. I’ve been to his, and I didn’t like it either.

But somehow, we both still stood our ground

So we ended up going to his spot. We ordered, ate… and just as expected, he enjoyed his food, and I still didn’t.

    Now I’m just thinking…

If we had gone to my own spot instead, would it have been the same thing?
Would I be the one enjoying it while he’s just there wondering what the hype is?

Same city, same food… completely different experiences.

Is it just taste? Or something deeper?
