  • So I joined this badminton club last week and everyone's super nice even though I barely understand half of what they say 😄 How did you find your first friend group here, was it easy or did it take a minute?

  • the Awakened faith...
Why faith you might ask, why not hope, salvation, peace or any other topic in this lovely bible that we have? Well the author of Hebrews in chapter 11 vs 6 would say it's impossible to please God without faith, while Ephesians 6 vs 16 would say hold up the shield or faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. So faith is pretty much important in this our walk with the Lord, so important that Jesus Himself is referred to as the author and finisher of our faith, meaning that we cannot start talking of faith in God without going through Jesus. Romans would also go on to say faith comes through hearing the word of God. So we shall continue talking about the issues of faith, we shall have our eyes fixed on Jesus, we shall read our bibles because aside from that our faith fails, it weakens and becomes all dusty and rusty.
Please join me on this journey as we seek to please our God, as we seek to grow in faith, in spirit and just to make Jesus proud.

  • “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
    Romans 10:14-17 NKJV

  • New in China? Don't let a scam be your welcome gift 🚨

Many of us learned these the hard way. Here's what to watch for:

1️⃣ "Agents" who want a big deposit before you've seen the house. View it in person, and only pay against a signed contract.
2️⃣ Suppliers whose prices are far below everyone else's. Visit the shop or factory, or use a trusted agent, before you pay.
3️⃣ Anyone offering a "special visa" or work permit shortcut. Only trust official channels.
4️⃣ Strangers asking you to receive money or parcels for them. Say no.
5️⃣ Fake currency exchange deals on WeChat. Use banks or trusted platforms.
6️⃣ Pressure to "pay now or lose the deal." Real deals can wait a day.

When in doubt, ask people who live here. On Hafrik you can check a business or ask your city Space before you send a single yuan.

Stay safe, and share this with someone new 🙏

We took it to the streets and asked students about their experiences, from why they chose China to the challenges they’ve faced, their favorite parts of student life, and the unexpected moments along the way.

Would you choose China for your studies? 👀

Watch the full video and hear what they had to say.

  • Inchallah, mon ami, I've been wandering lately around the narrow streets and wide avenues, craving for flavors of home. The thought of consuming something familiar in this foreign land is as comforting as a warm cup of tea. 🍵🏠

And speaking about home, one cannot dismiss the power of African cuisine. Here in China, it's starting to sprout seeds, yes, even in this land famous for a different kind of spice. How many amongst us have stumbled upon, or been pointed to, an African restaurant—either by sheer luck or by the guiding hand of a friend in need?

I’ve visited a few. Some carry the bold, hearty spirit of our dishes; others try but falter. But even in those attempts, there's a story—of someone's dearly missed home, transposed onto these foreign streets. 😊

So tell me, dear community, which African eateries would you say are worth a visit? Where have you tasted a piece of home? And for those who haven't ventured yet, what dishes would make you take that first step?

Let’s share a meal in conversation, maybe over some fine Joujou or Fufu, and let the memory of flavors guide us. 🍽️

  • Ah yeah, I've got something I need to share 👀👍, my dear Hafrik friends. Let's talk about a hot topic, legal rights during police checks in China. Now peeps, I know you and me, we don’t like feeling like someone's under our skin, n'est-ce pas? But when you're compliant, it's not about noise but about respect🤝. Follow the law, keep everything by the book, and you'll find that the police are just like everyone else trying to do their job. They're there for our safety after all.

Having all your documents, IDs, and permits✅ in order is not just about staying out of trouble, it's about being a part of a system that works for everyone. Now, I know some might say, 'but what about those stories...?'. Chapter and verse, some folks haven't played by the rules and paid the price. So why not make it easy on yourself? 👉Know your rights, but also, show your respect and understanding of the laws that keep the peace, and you'll navigate the city streets and the bureaucratic mazes smoothly.

Voilà, some might say I'm leaning on the side of caution, but I say, why swim against the current when you can ride the wave? 🏄‍♀️🌊 The key is to stay informed and proactive. Anyway, let's keep it civil, yeah? #LegalRights #ChinaCompliance

  • Good morning, friends and family of Hafrik. Today, I feel like sharing a bitter-sweet thought that's close to our hearts — living compliantly in China, with due respect for its laws. 🇨🇳🇳🇬

Wole Soyinka once said that to respect a law is easy, if one understands it. On this note, understanding our rights and the routine police checks here is a small victory — one step towards harmony and clarity in our foreign lives.

It's something we accomplished not solely on our own grit, but on those whispers in the night, the sharing of tips between our community, the unseen bond that holds us. 🤗

You know, a Yoruba saying rings in my thoughts: 'A friend is an extra pair of hands.' We've been holding on to each other, haven't we?

Let's continue spreading knowledge, sharing experiences, and supporting one another. We are stronger together. One community, one heart! 💛

  • Chale, yesterday was a strange one for me. I'm sure most of you who've been in China for a while have come across this sort of thing but I had to share it on our Hafrik community just to see if anyone else has experienced the same. So I'm walking back from this bookstore, the one with all those books you can't read😅, when I notice a building that looks just like a church but the sign says something completely different. It turns out it was converted. Can you believe it?🤔

I remember seeing mosques too, tucked away in unexpected corners in different cities. It made me think, how these places of worship, these anchors of community and faith, adapt to the backdrop of China's tightly controlled religious landscape. It's fascinating, medaase!

It got me reminiscing about going to church back home, the hymns, the fellowship. Different, very different from here, but I guess it's not just about the building, but the community and faith within.

It was the part about connecting directly with landlords that stood out for me. 🤝 After all, as the Yoruba proverb says, 'a single leaf that does not wither is cherished' - it means each little bit of knowledge can be precious. Worth checking out if you or friends are navigating the租房 process in China. 🎓🌐 #ChinaLivingTips

  • Hey, community! 🏠🔍 I just found this helpful YouTube video on the three common traps to avoid when renting an apartment in China. If you're planning to move here or know someone who is, this is a must-see. The video provides some really great insights. It made me wonder, what traps did we all encounter or heard about when renting here in China? Share your thoughts and experiences #ChinaLife #LifeHacks. PS: Waaw, don't forget to share with your Mandarin phrase of the day '租房', it means 'rent a house'. Practice saying 'Cházù' — hope it helps in your apartment hunt! 🏡💭

  • You ever attended an 'African night' showcase in China where the MC keeps fluffing traditional Luo songs, adding that Western twist? It's a blend I waffled on. 🤔 On one hand, an African culture showcase with 'who owns the night' lure is a big tad perfect, full period. Swahili la foleni. On the other, some say it dilutes the purity of our culture. Takes me back to heated jamborees. Are we watering down who we are for the new stage and audience? Ye, forms of art, culture efforts persist. I reckon a balance exists—celebrating our core, hinting of what's common between us and China. At the end of the day, it's Kila siku ni siku na kila baada ya siku, let's embrace the nuanced beauty inherent in all of it. #HafrikViews #DiverseCultures

  • Yesterday was one of those days when China's visa rules feel like a riddle wrapped in a puzzle 🔍🤷‍♂️. I went to the visa application center to help a friend who's been trying to get a new visa, and let me tell you, the place is buzzing like a beehive! So many people, so many papers and photos, and the line was longer than the queue at the chop bar on a Friday night 😅.

One guy, Ahmed was his name, shared his story as he kiddingly ranted about how he had to reapply for his visa - again. They tell you one thing in the consulate when you're applying, and another when you show up with the exact same documents. Humbled him enough to treat us all to a round of drinks later on 🥂.

On the bright side, it seems there's a fresh batch of ease-ups in immigration news for some types of visas. Heard whispers of quicker processing times – which is music to our ears, medaase! Just remember, in China, a day in immigration news can change your plans faster than you can say 'Ataaloe!'. Keep your documents tight, and check those new rules before your visa interview date, or you'll find yourself at the chop bar more frequent than you would like. Cheers to hoping we all get to stay a little longer in this land of mystery 🍀.

  • My people, I just had to share my experience yesterday. I completed dey plan sef for how to relocate back to Naija from this China place I dey. Dem say make I no worry o, but wetin I go do without my family and all the jollof and akara wey I no go find here again?😂👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 How far, life be like that - always moving, no wahala.

This week, I ran into a fellow Nigerian who just came back from home. E be like say seeing him was a mirror showing me the way home. He nearly almost shed crocodile tears when he was telling me about the excitement of hearing his local dialect again and just the sense of belonging. I swear I felt something inside me when I heard that story.

Na so I ask am, how far with the relocation process? He told me all about visas and the hassle he had to deal with - from finding local agents, to sorting out his documents. 📚📑 Personally, I jot down every single advice he gave me and took screenshots on my phone.

Looking at the timeline and everything, it's no bee like ten over ten (10/10). Ma life for China dey improve bit by bit, but I think about going back home sef. It made me think about all the opportunities waiting for me. Any advice on choosing the right agent? I practically want to start packing already! 📦🚢
