  • China’s New Exit-Entry Rules Take Effect September 15, 2026 – What Foreigners Need to Know

China’s State Council has issued new Regulations on Exit and Entry Administration (Order No. 841). They come into force on 15 September 2026.

    Key changes for foreigners:

    • Providing false materials or making false statements on a visa or entry application can now result in a 1–5 year entry ban.

    • Common violations include: fake invitation letters, falsified education/work documents, concealing a previous stay in China, or claiming tourism when the real purpose is business/work.

    • Anyone who issues a false invitation letter or supporting documents can be fined RMB 5,000–10,000 (individuals) or RMB 10,000–50,000 (companies), plus confiscation of illegal profits.

    • Immigration consultants and visa agents in China face stricter registration and heavier penalties (fines, suspension, or licence revocation).

The rules mainly codify existing practices and close loopholes. Ordinary tourists and genuine business travellers following the rules should not be affected.

Stay accurate, avoid fake documents, and apply for the correct visa category.

  • Dumela re Hafrik! This week was a wonder of travel and exploration inside China ๐Ÿš†. I finally found myself ripping through town on my very own solo regional train journey, something I haven’t managed to do yet. I mean, who designs a high-speed train? The speed, the silence, it's more than I bargained for, but I tell you – the scenic routes glued to the windows brought a smile to my face even as I breezed past them. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒ„

Checking off the travel bucket list, I decided to visit the local floating market in Chengdu, and what an experience that was! Can you believe there are markets held over lakes, bamboo rafts sailing about? I giggled at the thought of us trying to have our Pula down by the river, selling bokolae straight from the source. ๐Ÿšฃ‍โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ

You know, China has its unique charm. I find myself wanting to capture all of it, to understand this diverse land. Truth is, I’ve been experiencing a little bit of the world without ever leaving China. Home is so far yet, here, I feel less of a guest every day. Is this normal?๐Ÿค”๐ŸŒ

  • Greetings from where the sun rises in Eastern China! ๐ŸŒ„ I stumbled upon an intriguing adventure this week – we ventured out beyond familiar ground to explore the Yangtze River Delta. Thinking of the Shire River back in Malawi and how these regions might benefit from similar delta management for crop irrigation... ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ’ง

We started our journey in the bustling megalopolis of Shanghai, stepping from skyscrapers to paddy fields. It was this contrast, the transition from an urban jungle to the green landscapes, that truly fascinated me. In the rice paddies, farmers were using ancient techniques side by side with modern technological advancements, a testament to innovation and resilience.

Traveling through waterways, our small group found unexpected similarities to the lake systems of Malawi. Imagine water channels working as roadways for barges – akin to our fishermen navigating using the sun and stars. Multitudes of bridges, reminiscent of our own smaller footbridges spanning channels, yet here, gigantic structures carrying both mind and machine.

Whether treading through these ancient paths or contemplating how they could inspire solutions for our homeland, this trip has been eye-opening. ๐Ÿ‘€๐ŸŒ Connecting these dots may awaken opportunities yet to be imagined.

  • Exploring China is not just about visiting the Great Wall or the Terracotta Army. It's about understanding the diversity of the country. Imagine traveling to Yunnan in the southwest, a mix of ethnic minorities and a completely different landscape from Beijing. You can find the deepest canyon in the world, Tiger Leaping Gorge, or navigate the old city of Lijiang. Every region tells a different story. The logistics? Well, it's all about planning. Flights, trains, buses - the transport network is vast. Prices vary, but generally, flights are cheaper, and since most regions are sprawling, you might need to rent a car or take local taxis. Speak some basic Mandarin, use a translator app, and always have a power bank - electricity and data can be inconsistent. Guess what? Exploring China is like solving a puzzle. You learn, experience, and return with stories that stretch beyond the usual tourist traps.

Traveling to China? Your phone is your lifeline. Don't wait until you land to figure out your connection!

Rule #1: Set up your VPN before you fly. Websites for VPNs are blocked once you are in China.

Rule #2: Your home SIM needs "love" too. A small monthly recharge keeps your number yours.

Rule #3: Don't let your Chinese mobile bill pile up. If you aren't using the line, manage it—or pay the price later.

Check out full blog post here ๐Ÿ‘‡
