What’s it like working in China ?
Living and working in China has been one of the most interesting chapters of my life—but it’s also taught me that there isn’t one “China experience.”

As a PE teacher and content creator, I get to experience things I never imagined: teaching in a different education system, adapting to new environments, building relationships, taking care of my health and recovery, and even exploring business opportunities through factory visits.

But I’ve also learned that what you see online is only one side of the story.
This carousel gives you a glimpse into my experience working and living in China—the opportunities, the challenges, and some of the things I wish more people considered before making the move.

China’s New Exit-Entry Rules Take Effect September 15, 2026 – What Foreigners Need to Know

China’s State Council has issued new Regulations on Exit and Entry Administration (Order No. 841). They come into force on 15 September 2026.

Key changes for foreigners:

• Providing false materials or making false statements on a visa or entry application can now result in a 1–5 year entry ban.

• Common violations include: fake invitation letters, falsified education/work documents, concealing a previous stay in China, or claiming tourism when the real purpose is business/work.

• Anyone who issues a false invitation letter or supporting documents can be fined RMB 5,000–10,000 (individuals) or RMB 10,000–50,000 (companies), plus confiscation of illegal profits.

• Immigration consultants and visa agents in China face stricter registration and heavier penalties (fines, suspension, or licence revocation).

The rules mainly codify existing practices and close loopholes. Ordinary tourists and genuine business travellers following the rules should not be affected.

Stay accurate, avoid fake documents, and apply for the correct visa category.

So, living in China and that life here has got me thinking about raising a family and all that jazz. Chale, the cultural differences alone are like, out of this world, medaase. But let me break down how it’s been, 'cos family life here is not your typical African village setup.

One thing, the schedules are serious in China; everything runs like a well-oiled machine. For kids, that means a lot of school, even on weekends sometimes. The focus is on academics, no time to waste. The pressure! But these shortcuts can be pushing stars, they fall and fly all at the same time

Good thing is, you get support from the community in raising the kids. They got this collective rearing where everyone pitches in. It's random, but it works, abi? Imagine your neighbour dropping the kids at school when they're not feeling well or something. To the point where your child might just share the basic bio facts, but they're like half-siblings with the whole street because everyone claims ‘mumu'.

Teaching them the language has been an adventure, plenty of L's taken. But when you see them transition - from ya fun twi and pidgin夹杂普通话 - to speaking like mini Chinese national treasures, it’s all worth it. I’ve named this game Triple Lingual Toddlers.

Family outings are top-notch too. Visiting ancient sites is basically like living history books. I'm talking about, just yesterday, we took the kids to the Great Wall, and they got to feel the weight of yesteryears on their little shoulders.

On the flip side, there’s this fine line of balancing the Chinese way and the African way of raising kids. Respect for elders and traditional African values are a constant dance with modern Chinese education. The clash is real but learning how to mesh them is like a full-time gig

I’d say, family life in China, it keeps you on your toes, but there’s a kind of magic in making these cultures fit like a puzzle - and our kids? The living, breathing evidence of that magic. What’s your take, o? Feel free to share your own family stories or thoughts in China. Let’s chop this up.

🇨🇳 China Tightens Rules for Influencers

China is rolling out new regulations that will reshape how influencers share content online.

👉 Only those with university degrees or verified professional training can now discuss specialized topics like medicine, finance, law, education, or health.

The move is part of China’s wider effort to reduce misinformation and ensure that expert advice online comes from qualified professionals.

⚠️ Influencers who ignore the rules risk:
• Account suspension or permanent closure
• Fines up to ¥100,000 (~$14,000)

Major platforms such as Douyin (TikTok China), Weibo, and Bilibili will now verify the credentials of creators before allowing professional-topic content.
