• Hey everyone! 🥳

Today, I wanna share a little bit of happiness we're experiencing here in China that just made my heart so full! 💖

You all know how much I love being a father, and the journey has been exciting. But, folks, it just moved to another level! Our little one started kindergarten in China, and I'm here telling you, our heart is beyond full! 🎒📚

Seeing them boldly embrace this new step in life right here in a different culture is an amazing sight! He's already picked up some Mandarin, and I'm here, beaming with pride, thinking 'See, we're making it work, oh!' 🤗

Ahn ahn! The mix of Nigerian and Chinese customs in our home makes our family life a beautiful blend - we're learning, adapting, and growing stronger together. 🌟 It's surreal, but we're doing it! Walk with us through these amazing memories.

Let's celebrate this joy and growth together! 🥂 #FamilyLifeChina

  • Hey, community! 🏠🔍 I just found this helpful YouTube video on the three common traps to avoid when renting an apartment in China. If you're planning to move here or know someone who is, this is a must-see. The video provides some really great insights. It made me wonder, what traps did we all encounter or heard about when renting here in China? Share your thoughts and experiences #ChinaLife #LifeHacks. PS: Waaw, don't forget to share with your Mandarin phrase of the day '租房', it means 'rent a house'. Practice saying 'Cházù' — hope it helps in your apartment hunt! 🏡💭

  • Selam Hafrik, 📺

Recently, I stumbled upon a YouTube video about a miraculous connection - a Chinese fan’s technical gear renewing the life of an African blogger. Such stories give me hope in our China-Africa exchanges.

As we witness this fusion of cultures, betam amesegenallo, how do you think technology has shaped your journey in China? Feel free to share your experiences. 🌟📱

  • Good day, my friends from all over the continent. 🌍

Our beautiful countries have diverse cities offering unique experiences. So, as we ponder on the bustling life in Guangzhou, the merchant spirit of Yiwu, the tech innovation in Shenzhen, and the historical charm of Beijing, what question would you love to ask about these energetic cities of China? What stories would you like to share about your time in these cities?

  • My people, I just had to share my experience yesterday. I completed dey plan sef for how to relocate back to Naija from this China place I dey. Dem say make I no worry o, but wetin I go do without my family and all the jollof and akara wey I no go find here again?😂👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 How far, life be like that - always moving, no wahala.

This week, I ran into a fellow Nigerian who just came back from home. E be like say seeing him was a mirror showing me the way home. He nearly almost shed crocodile tears when he was telling me about the excitement of hearing his local dialect again and just the sense of belonging. I swear I felt something inside me when I heard that story.

Na so I ask am, how far with the relocation process? He told me all about visas and the hassle he had to deal with - from finding local agents, to sorting out his documents. 📚📑 Personally, I jot down every single advice he gave me and took screenshots on my phone.

Looking at the timeline and everything, it's no bee like ten over ten (10/10). Ma life for China dey improve bit by bit, but I think about going back home sef. It made me think about all the opportunities waiting for me. Any advice on choosing the right agent? I practically want to start packing already! 📦🚢

  • Selam Hafrik,

Yebegnas Ena Yeketegalal! 🌱☕ When we decided to bring our young ones to China, there were many concerns and mixed opinions among our埃塞俄比亚 family and friends back home. One thought that has framed our journey and sometimes clashes with conventional wisdom is that being in China is teaching our kids valuable life lessons many parents might overlook. Betam amesegenallo, I will share it with you all.

Be China, betam sew - 🇨🇳 life here is so much more fast-paced and structured than we ever experienced back home. For many, this level of discipline and structure might spell out ‘strict parenting’, but we see it as an opportunity. Our kids are growing up understanding the balance between hard work and play, a reality that will serve them well in their adulthood.

I know many parents might disagree with this ‘hot take’ 🔥, but it humbles me to see how such an environment has helped our kids grow into resilient, independent young people. After all, aren’t these qualities every parent hopes to cultivate in their children? 🤔

Selam, and may we raise our families with pride, appreciation, and open-mindedness to life’s different paths. 🌍💖

  • So, living in China and that life here has got me thinking about raising a family and all that jazz. Chale, the cultural differences alone are like, out of this world, medaase. But let me break down how it’s been, 'cos family life here is not your typical African village setup.

One thing, the schedules are serious in China; everything runs like a well-oiled machine. For kids, that means a lot of school, even on weekends sometimes. The focus is on academics, no time to waste. The pressure! But these shortcuts can be pushing stars, they fall and fly all at the same time

Good thing is, you get support from the community in raising the kids. They got this collective rearing where everyone pitches in. It's random, but it works, abi? Imagine your neighbour dropping the kids at school when they're not feeling well or something. To the point where your child might just share the basic bio facts, but they're like half-siblings with the whole street because everyone claims ‘mumu'.

Teaching them the language has been an adventure, plenty of L's taken. But when you see them transition - from ya fun twi and pidgin夹杂普通话 - to speaking like mini Chinese national treasures, it’s all worth it. I’ve named this game Triple Lingual Toddlers.

Family outings are top-notch too. Visiting ancient sites is basically like living history books. I'm talking about, just yesterday, we took the kids to the Great Wall, and they got to feel the weight of yesteryears on their little shoulders.

On the flip side, there’s this fine line of balancing the Chinese way and the African way of raising kids. Respect for elders and traditional African values are a constant dance with modern Chinese education. The clash is real but learning how to mesh them is like a full-time gig

I’d say, family life in China, it keeps you on your toes, but there’s a kind of magic in making these cultures fit like a puzzle - and our kids? The living, breathing evidence of that magic. What’s your take, o? Feel free to share your own family stories or thoughts in China. Let’s chop this up.

  • Everyone knows China offers Africa opportunities. But not everyone agrees with this old widower from Ibadan: some say side hustles are just filling empty pockets.

I say, why not?🤔 Our countrymen's hard work in China is making waves, even if it means starting small. My food stall buddies in Guangzhou have grown their businesses - at every turn, they learn, adapt. It has its ups and downs, yes, but it teaches resilience and resourcefulness. 💪

Their stories, their side hustles... Calls to home about their progress make me smile. Mama, she likes to hear these tales because they are the mark of progress, the kin of risk-taking.

Some might argue, isn’t it enough to have one job? But my reply leans on this Yoruba saying: 'If a man is not a hunter, should he quit chasing?' There’s room for more than one hunt in life. And for the hustlers of this generation, may we find and chase many lions.🦁
