  • Listen, managing WeChat outside China isn’t a walk in the park. One trick? Switch settings to 'English' if your Chinese isn’t up to scratch. Less confusion, more efficiency. 😏 #SurvivingWeChat # LanguageBar

  • They want you to learn 'hello' and 'thank you' and feel accomplished. Meanwhile your competitors are negotiating payment terms in Mandarin and shaving 15% off unit costs. Step 1: Audit how many WeChat messages you ignored this month because they weren't in English. Step 2: What's the actual ROI on stopping at beginner level vs pushing to conversational fluency? πŸ“¦

  • WhatsApp/Instagram/Google in China πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ – What’s working for you?

Just arrived or planning a trip? Here’s the real deal on staying connected:

    πŸ”΄ The Block
WhatsApp, Instagram, Google (Maps, Gmail, Drive), Facebook, and X are blocked here without a stable connection tool. Don’t panic—it’s manageable.

    🟒 What actually works:
WeChat = Everything (chat, pay, mini-apps, life)
Baidu Maps > Google Maps for local navigation (Chinese/English available)
Outlook/Hotmail usually works without issues for email
Bing works for search (international version)
Apple Maps works if you have iPhone

    πŸ’‘ Pro tips:
    - Download a VPN before you arrive (if you go that route—test a few, they vary by city/ISP)
    - International roaming: from your home SIM sometimes bypasses blocks (but check data costs!)
    - Alipay or WeChat Pay are essential—way more important than Instagram access πŸ˜…

    πŸ€” My question to you:
What’s your setup? VPN, roaming, or full "going local" with Chinese apps? Any apps surprisingly working better than expected?

Drop your tips below for the new arrivals! πŸ‘‡

  • Yo, made new friends, it was quite easy making new connections, not just people to talk to, but people with various possible opportunities to offer. With this 3 things you could connect quickly when you meet new people, remember in china, and basically anywhere in the world, to be ahead you need people who know more than you do in such a field or pursuit.
1 - when you say hi/hello ( basically greetings) remember to comment on something they're wearing or something you could highlight about them. eg " hi, good day, I love this blazers though, looking real good" then your name and blah blah blah you go on
2 - make sure you have quality questions planned always, (create a frame work) many people don't have any sort of frame work, they say " just go with the flow" as much as this sounds doable, make sure you have a framework, eg firstly ask where they're from, second, their name, then repeat Thier name twice and up to 4 times in the conversation ( very important).
And lastly but not the least
3 - ask about what they do, and listen like your life depends on it, then you can ask if you could take a picture, (after the whole discussion though) then ask for their WeChat/WhatsApp so you could send it to them, remember you are trying to build a connection, so enjoy the whole thingπŸ‘‹,
Give us some of your guidelines on how to reach out to some new.

  • Supporting Foreigners With Real Solutions.
So Earlier today, a foreign entrepreneur reached out in our community asking for a trusted service in Shenzhen that could translate academic degrees into Chinese and provide an official stamped translation. This is a common requirement for work permits, company registration, school applications, and other official processes in China, yet it’s often hard for foreigners to find reliable providers.

Our support team responded immediately to understand her location and exact need. After checking our existing contacts in Shenzhen, we were able to recommend a verified translation company that specializes in official academic document translations accepted by Chinese authorities.

    Recommended Company Details:
    • Company Name: New World Translation
    • Service: Academic degree translation with official stamp
    • City: Shenzhen
    • WeChat ID: XSJHR2004

The contact was shared directly in the group so she could reach out without delays or uncertainty.

This is a simple example of how the community works. When someone has a real need, we connect them to real solutions using trusted contacts. No guessing, no unnecessary back and forth, just practical help that saves time and stress.

We’ll continue to support foreigners and entrepreneurs by sharing verified information and contacts that make life and business in China easier.

  • How to Order Food in China Without Speaking Perfect Chinese (Works 99% of the Time)
    Step 1: Open WeChat/Dianping/Alipay
Step 2: Scan the QR code on the table (almost every restaurant has one)
Step 3: Menu pops up with photos + English/translation
Step 4: Point at pictures, choose, pay instantly
Step 5: Food arrives in 5–10 mins. No talking needed πŸ˜‚
Bonus hack: If there’s no QR code, open your camera, point at the Chinese menu, and use the built-in translator (WeChat & Alipay both have it). Magic.
I used to be terrified of ordering. Now I eat like a local every day.

  • β˜• Where Do You Go to Unwind in Your City?
Life in China can move so fast — new faces, new food, new routines.
But everyone needs that one spot where they can slow down, recharge, and just breathe. 🌿

For some, it’s a quiet café with jazz music and milk tea.
For others, it’s a night walk along the Pearl River, a small African restaurant, or even a WeChat group full of familiar names.

Where’s your go-to place to unwind in your city?
πŸ“Drop the name or short description below — let’s build a community list of the best chill spots across Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing, and beyond.

✨ Whether it’s a park, a rooftop, or a late-night market, someone in your city might just need that same space too.
