  • Hey peeps, been thinking about this China-Africa connection lately. It'sไธๅชๆ˜ฏ business, it's a pretty strong force too and I'm trying to figure out how we can make it work in our favor here! ๐Ÿ’ก

I was chatting with this Nigerian guy the other day - he tried this fried bread and chili oil thing from a street stall near his school. Tasted like a mix between puff-puff and Ghanaian yam chips but a lot spicier. We're talking ๐ŸŒถ๐ŸŒถ๐ŸŒถ and it cost him 10 kuai! If we could sell stuff like that back home, it could be totally a win. But think about it, what are those business opportunities we're not fully tapping into?

I mean, e-commerce? Agriculture, maybe? Tech-related stuff? And how can we scale up from this corner to the whole continent? It's not straightforward, there's a lot of wahala. But I think the potential's there. The snacks alone, omo, the snacks... ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ—

What's your take? Heard of any unique opportunities out there or success stories?

  • Ah, eish, all this talk about motivation these days. You know what they say, motivation is everything!๐Ÿ‘Š And lemme tell you, I've seen someiple living proof here in China, Africans who are nothing short of success stories. Here's my hot take: motivation is just the engine, but culture's the oil ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ letting it run smoothly. #AfricanExcellence #ChineseDiversity

I know, right? Different strokes for different folks, but let's talk story time. Take Nelson for example; he comes from Cape Town, makes a living here selling designer socks๐Ÿงฆ. Might sound quirky, but hey, he's the king of socks in Guangzhou!๐Ÿ‘‘ You see, him being from a place full of colour and creativity kind of blends into how he markets his stuff. And, eish, his products are sharp sharp in this market! His secret? Being true to himself and his roots.๐ŸŒŸ

People might disagree, argue motivation is universal but trust me, our backgrounds add spice to the game. Another student of mine, Thandi, from Joburg, she's doing graphic design with a twist – using traditional Zulu patterns she learned from her grandmother.โœ‚๏ธ This girl is making waves and has been approached by big companies who want that authentic African vibe in their products.โœ…

So, I'm here telling you, lekker, motivation's not just a thirst for success; it's letting your roots show in everything you do. Even when you're far from home ๐Ÿ . What do you all think? Do you agree or am I missing the boat here? Tell me your hustles and how your culture plays a role. Let's share some motivation faits!๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŒ

  • Saw a piece in the paper about motivational stories from our community in China. It got me thinking about when I first landed in Guangzhou...a disoriented and anxious type. Now, running my own shop near Tianhe business district, selling digitally imported goods to locals. Numbers don't lie, huh? ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿšข
Sure wasn't easy. Lot of late nights at Baoma Lu market, coding custom shipping routes to dodge customs hurdles. High custom duties hurt, but keeping a cool head when dealing with those pesky paperwork did wonders.
Success stories around? Heard about this guy from Lagos, runs a small-scale supermarket in Beijing. Humble beginnings - migrant worker then turned entrepreneur. And the countless ladies bagging profit from tailoring and boutique businesses in Wuyi Plaza.
These tales are the real fuel. Not the empty pep-talks, right? They're proof it's all about the process. Just keep pushing. Numbers will follow, trust the process.

  • My name is Ace the Artist, a Zambian visual artist and creative entrepreneur currently based in Zambia. From 2016 to 2022, I lived in China, where I established a successful art business that continues to operate today. My work focuses on creating original artwork while using art as a way to bring people together through creative experiences.

In 2024, I partnered with TORI-JI Restaurant in Shanghai to launch a series of Sip & Paint events that welcomed people of all skill levels to explore their creativity in a fun and social environment. These events helped build a vibrant community of art enthusiasts and demonstrated the power of art to connect people from different backgrounds.

I also developed a beginner-friendly painting kit designed to teach anyone how to paint, making art more accessible while encouraging creativity and confidence. Through both my artwork and community-based events, my mission is to inspire, educate, and create meaningful artistic experiences.

Although I am now based in Zambia, my art business and Sip & Paint community continue to grow in China. Below is a selection of my artwork and highlights from the Sip & Paint events I have organized at TORI-JI Restaurant in Shanghai.

We spent much time polishing every detail of this handcrafted clay stop-motion short, from matte plush texture to fixed warm natural lighting.

Our cocky pal brags nonstop about his perfection, but slips up right away. The quiet red-cloak panda uses soft Chinglish to tease him: As failure model… you very successful. Typical gentle Chinese hidden humor!

"The loudest person in the room is rarely the most powerful."
In China, success is a game of Reverence + Backbone.
Step 1: Show deep respect for the hierarchy. It’s the key to the door.
Step 2: Don't be a doormat. Stand firm, be decisive, and never let people "step and go."
Step 3: Master the "Personal Win." Let others talk. The more they speak, the more you learn. Silence isn't weakness; it’s an information-gathering tool. ๐Ÿ“Š
Real talk: If you can't read the room, you can't lead the room.
What’s your "Personal Win" story? Have you ever gained an opportunity just by listening? Let’s talk below! ๐Ÿ‘‡ Check out full blog post here

  • Three years ago, we recorded this video and never posted it.
The platform wasn't even called Hafrik yet. It was FLIC, a simple idea to build a community app for foreigners living in China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ
In front of the camera, Rejoice and Success, two people who believed in the vision before the vision even had a name.
Behind the camera, Andrew shooting it, Lolade holding things together, and myself figuring out what we were even building.
We didn't post it because honestly, we were still becoming.
The name changed. The vision grew. What started as "let's help foreigners in China connect" turned into something much bigger. We discovered that Africans specifically, whether trading from Lagos, studying in Guangzhou, or building a life in Yiwu, had no real infrastructure built for them. No trusted platform. No community backbone. No one on the ground solving their actual problems.
    So FLIC became Hafrik.
And Hafrik became the operating system for Africans abroad.
We're posting this now three years later not because it's perfect. But because every big thing starts somewhere small, uncertain, and unpolished. This was ours.
To Rejoice, Success, Andrew, Lolade, and everyone who was in that room thank you for showing up before it made sense to. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

While many may share similar visions, the dedication, planning, and perseverance required to bring an idea to life are what distinguish success from mere intention. Execution demands discipline, adaptability, and a willingness to overcome obstacles—qualities that transform a concept into tangible results. Ultimately, it's not just about having a great idea but about taking consistent, purposeful action to make it a reality.
