  • My people, I just had to share my experience yesterday. I completed dey plan sef for how to relocate back to Naija from this China place I dey. Dem say make I no worry o, but wetin I go do without my family and all the jollof and akara wey I no go find here again?πŸ˜‚πŸ‘¨‍πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§‍πŸ‘¦ How far, life be like that - always moving, no wahala.

This week, I ran into a fellow Nigerian who just came back from home. E be like say seeing him was a mirror showing me the way home. He nearly almost shed crocodile tears when he was telling me about the excitement of hearing his local dialect again and just the sense of belonging. I swear I felt something inside me when I heard that story.

Na so I ask am, how far with the relocation process? He told me all about visas and the hassle he had to deal with - from finding local agents, to sorting out his documents. πŸ“šπŸ“‘ Personally, I jot down every single advice he gave me and took screenshots on my phone.

Looking at the timeline and everything, it's no bee like ten over ten (10/10). Ma life for China dey improve bit by bit, but I think about going back home sef. It made me think about all the opportunities waiting for me. Any advice on choosing the right agent? I practically want to start packing already! πŸ“¦πŸš’

  • Greetings from where the sun rises in Eastern China! πŸŒ„ I stumbled upon an intriguing adventure this week – we ventured out beyond familiar ground to explore the Yangtze River Delta. Thinking of the Shire River back in Malawi and how these regions might benefit from similar delta management for crop irrigation... πŸŒΎπŸ’§

We started our journey in the bustling megalopolis of Shanghai, stepping from skyscrapers to paddy fields. It was this contrast, the transition from an urban jungle to the green landscapes, that truly fascinated me. In the rice paddies, farmers were using ancient techniques side by side with modern technological advancements, a testament to innovation and resilience.

Traveling through waterways, our small group found unexpected similarities to the lake systems of Malawi. Imagine water channels working as roadways for barges – akin to our fishermen navigating using the sun and stars. Multitudes of bridges, reminiscent of our own smaller footbridges spanning channels, yet here, gigantic structures carrying both mind and machine.

Whether treading through these ancient paths or contemplating how they could inspire solutions for our homeland, this trip has been eye-opening. πŸ‘€πŸŒ Connecting these dots may awaken opportunities yet to be imagined.

  • Nkem, my 11-year-old, has been struggling with her Mandarin lately πŸ“š. I made her start classes over a year ago, hoping it would be good preparation when the time comes to study in a Chinese university. Well, this week she came home and asked me, “Mom, why do we study HSK?” Instead of getting mad, I picked her brain further, and she went on about how she found the language classes interesting but she'd appreciate more motivation. That got us talking about scholarships! She perked up when I mentioned some of the scholarship opportunities available for proficient Mandarin speakers, including the ones right here in China. It’s not just about getting good grades in HSK levels anymore. There are scholarships tied to language proficiency! πŸ’Έ This has opened our eyes to the bigger picture. Now we're both more energized about our language journey. It’s not only about learning a new language but also opening doors to incredible opportunities. I wish I had known earlier... maybe we’d be further along in this journey. Sharing this hope with you all, to keep our kids encouraged in their Mandarin studies, knowing it could lead them to chase those scholarship dreams πŸƒ‍β™€οΈπŸƒ‍♂️!

  • Everyone knows China offers Africa opportunities. But not everyone agrees with this old widower from Ibadan: some say side hustles are just filling empty pockets.

I say, why not?πŸ€” Our countrymen's hard work in China is making waves, even if it means starting small. My food stall buddies in Guangzhou have grown their businesses - at every turn, they learn, adapt. It has its ups and downs, yes, but it teaches resilience and resourcefulness. πŸ’ͺ

Their stories, their side hustles... Calls to home about their progress make me smile. Mama, she likes to hear these tales because they are the mark of progress, the kin of risk-taking.

Some might argue, isn’t it enough to have one job? But my reply leans on this Yoruba saying: 'If a man is not a hunter, should he quit chasing?' There’s room for more than one hunt in life. And for the hustlers of this generation, may we find and chase many lions.🦁

  • Breaking news for all Hafrik comrades: the #Mawangdui Online Chinese course just hit its 1000th enrollment! πŸš€

An awesome milestone for this course since its inception 6 months ago, making practical Chinese accessible for Africans living in China. Congratulations to every participant who has committed to this journey! πŸŽ“

Since the start, 75% of students managed to secure better job opportunities in Guangdong's textile mills or market districts like Gongyuanqian & Xingangshi. These numbers are proof that investing in learning Chinese pays off — big time!

In the next quarter, plan to expand the course to include 2 more districts, increasing our collective opportunities in the Chinese market.

Remember, mastering a new language is not about memorizing words. It's about communication, establishing trust, and getting deals done.

    Trust the process.

It will come from conversations you haven’t had and rooms you haven’t entered.

Success isn’t just about qualifications, it’s about access and positioning.

  • Yo, made new friends, it was quite easy making new connections, not just people to talk to, but people with various possible opportunities to offer. With this 3 things you could connect quickly when you meet new people, remember in china, and basically anywhere in the world, to be ahead you need people who know more than you do in such a field or pursuit.
1 - when you say hi/hello ( basically greetings) remember to comment on something they're wearing or something you could highlight about them. eg " hi, good day, I love this blazers though, looking real good" then your name and blah blah blah you go on
2 - make sure you have quality questions planned always, (create a frame work) many people don't have any sort of frame work, they say " just go with the flow" as much as this sounds doable, make sure you have a framework, eg firstly ask where they're from, second, their name, then repeat Thier name twice and up to 4 times in the conversation ( very important).
And lastly but not the least
3 - ask about what they do, and listen like your life depends on it, then you can ask if you could take a picture, (after the whole discussion though) then ask for their WeChat/WhatsApp so you could send it to them, remember you are trying to build a connection, so enjoy the whole thingπŸ‘‹,
Give us some of your guidelines on how to reach out to some new.

  • Less than 24 hours to launch.

On the 13th, we made the decision to push forward and officially launch the full native Hafrik app.

    Since then, it’s been intense.

Not just building and fixing things, but constantly thinking:
Are we doing this the right way?
    Is there anything we’re missing?
    Can this be better?

One thing I’ve learned through this process:

Clarity doesn’t come before you start.
    It comes as you build.

The more you build, the clearer the vision becomes.
    The clearer the direction becomes.

But even with that clarity, there’s still a certain pressure that comes with bringing something real into the world. Especially when you know people are going to depend on it.

The past two weeks have also come with challenges, especially with app store approvals. It hasn’t been smooth.

    But we’re here now.

    And we’re ready.

Hafrik is more than just an app.
It’s a platform built to connect people to opportunities, services, and a community, starting from China and expanding globally.

If everything goes as planned, we go live very soon.

    Let’s see how it unfolds.

  • Living in a new country can quietly turn into a routine of work and home, class and home. Before you know it, months pass and you’ve met almost no one outside your small circle.

If you’re in China, don’t let that happen.

Opportunities here rarely show up through isolation. They come through conversations, shared meals, events, collaborations, introductions, and simply being visible. The people you meet today can open doors you didn’t even know existed tomorrow.

Go out. Attend that meetup. Join that community. Start the conversation.
Don’t just survive in China. Build something here.
