  • Shenzhen Is About to Host the Whole Asia-Pacific — Here's What That Means for You
Shenzhen just got confirmed as the host city for the APEC CEO Summit 2026, running November 17-18, and the timing lines up with the bigger APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting on November 18-19. This is the CCPIT (China's main trade promotion body) making it official, and it's the third time China has hosted an APEC gathering, after Shanghai in 2001 and Beijing in 2014. Except this time it's not...

  • In the proud rhythm of our Nigerian and African beats, there lies the essence of the spirit of a people. And here in China, our music, parties and nightlife? C'est formidable. Any night out in the Yiwu streets, reminded of the melodies of home, one cannot help but feel a strange kinship with the culture of our host country, both dancing to an unending parade of rhythm - whether it's Fuji or Afrobeats in our own spaces, or Chinese melodies elsewhere. ๐ŸŽถ

Some may argue that our vibrant African music and boldness in parties are jarring to the tranquil Chinese nights. Mon ami, I respectfully take the contrary position. The syncopated beats of our music, born from struggle and resilience,ๆ˜ฑ they are like tea - intently brewed to be shared, experienced together,ๆ˜ฑYiwu's diverse tapestry of nightlife embracing each flavor. Let our music, and the unity it sows,ๆ˜ฑbe a bridge,ๆ˜ฑa vibrant thread weaving through the night’s fabric. ๐ŸŒƒ

Let's dance, let's party, because our light is what warms the soul and lets our presence bloom in every corner of this diverse world. Mindful, yes; respectful, oui... but never muted. Because in our music, we carry our heritage proudly, and when the Chinese night meets the African beat, it's not just a party, it's a conversation between cultures. ๐Ÿ”ฅโœจ #UnitedInRhythms #HeritageInMelodies

  • Zvakanaka,ไบฒๆœ‹ๅฅฝๅ‹ไปฌ๐Ÿ‘‹! Let me share with you a personal experience I had this week, which made me think about how tech and finance news really matter, especially for us in the African diaspora. ๐Ÿ’ก

I was at a local grocery store, mastering my Chinese when the shopkeeper mentioned that the price of beans has shot up due to a global supply issue. You see, China is a huge place and the news here moves fast. As I struggled with my broken Chinese and checked my phone, I found that there's indeed an ongoing drought in some parts affecting the production greatly. As a regular cook of nsima๐Ÿฅฃ, I couldn’t hide my concern on how this directly impacts our homes and letsema (everyday) life back home.

We might be far from our roots, but these big-tech and financial news pieces affect our communities directly. Back there, basic prices such as these decide the livelihood of many. Here, we get a more expensive cup of coffee, but they get a worrying livelihood.

Technology is integrating all global platforms, seamlessly transporting news, ideas, and sometimes not-so-good news fast. Being aware of these can help us be prepared, help back home, and sometimes even make savvy decisions for our future. We dubbediaspora are a bridge๐ŸŒ, we care for both sides of this world. Let’s keep up with the news, our families may depend on it down the line. ๐Ÿ™Œ

  • Good morning, friends and family of Hafrik. Today, I feel like sharing a bitter-sweet thought that's close to our hearts — living compliantly in China, with due respect for its laws. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

Wole Soyinka once said that to respect a law is easy, if one understands it. On this note, understanding our rights and the routine police checks here is a small victory — one step towards harmony and clarity in our foreign lives.

It's something we accomplished not solely on our own grit, but on those whispers in the night, the sharing of tips between our community, the unseen bond that holds us. ๐Ÿค—

You know, a Yoruba saying rings in my thoughts: 'A friend is an extra pair of hands.' We've been holding on to each other, haven't we?

Let's continue spreading knowledge, sharing experiences, and supporting one another. We are stronger together. One community, one heart! ๐Ÿ’›

  • Hey everyone! ๐Ÿฅณ

Today, I wanna share a little bit of happiness we're experiencing here in China that just made my heart so full! ๐Ÿ’–

You all know how much I love being a father, and the journey has been exciting. But, folks, it just moved to another level! Our little one started kindergarten in China, and I'm here telling you, our heart is beyond full! ๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿ“š

Seeing them boldly embrace this new step in life right here in a different culture is an amazing sight! He's already picked up some Mandarin, and I'm here, beaming with pride, thinking 'See, we're making it work, oh!' ๐Ÿค—

Ahn ahn! The mix of Nigerian and Chinese customs in our home makes our family life a beautiful blend - we're learning, adapting, and growing stronger together. ๐ŸŒŸ It's surreal, but we're doing it! Walk with us through these amazing memories.

Let's celebrate this joy and growth together! ๐Ÿฅ‚ #FamilyLifeChina

  • Navigating Chinese apps can seem daunting, but here's a practical tip specifically for Alipay: ๐Ÿ” use the 'Lucky Money' feature to split bills evenly among friends. Just add up the total amount, divide by the number of people and pay together. Then everyone individually reimburses you through 'Lucky Money'. Hassle-free and avoids the awkward 'when are you paying me back?' conversation.๐Ÿ‘ Swipe the next post for the masterclass on using WeChat Pay, DiDi, and Taobao too! #ChineseApps #PaymentTips

  • Walking down the streets of Guangzhou this week, I stumbled upon a group of enthusiastic football players - amidst the chaos of the city, there they were, dribbling with such finesse. ๐ŸŒŸ They were all African brothers, shouting in different languages, yet sharing the same passion. It made me think about the real power of football. It’s a common ground that breaks barriers and brings us together. How do you keep this football fever alive here in China?
