Their latest program, #FitAndJoy, aimed at creating a health-conscious culture and transforming workspaces into mini-fitness centers. Imagine! They've got all this cool equipment and they just set them up right in your workplace, and train you up. What a win! The best part? I hear they explaining everything in plain Pidgin, and even Mandarin.🏋️‍♂️💪

Walking through its narrow cobbled streets, you can smell the history in the air; it's like time stood still since the bronze age! This town wasn't in any tourist guide I had, but I'm telling you, it was worth finding. So much character! 🏞️

I'm talking bamboo craft shops 🎍, tea houses that have been in families for centuries 🍵, and food so authentic - straight from Granny's kitchen. All of this without spending a ton of cash either; prices here are shiwaje 😊.

Yesterday was one of those days when China's visa rules feel like a riddle wrapped in a puzzle 🔍🤷‍♂️. I went to the visa application center to help a friend who's been trying to get a new visa, and let me tell you, the place is buzzing like a beehive! So many people, so many papers and photos, and the line was longer than the queue at the chop bar on a Friday night 😅.

One guy, Ahmed was his name, shared his story as he kiddingly ranted about how he had to reapply for his visa - again. They tell you one thing in the consulate when you're applying, and another when you show up with the exact same documents. Humbled him enough to treat us all to a round of drinks later on 🥂.

On the bright side, it seems there's a fresh batch of ease-ups in immigration news for some types of visas. Heard whispers of quicker processing times – which is music to our ears, medaase! Just remember, in China, a day in immigration news can change your plans faster than you can say 'Ataaloe!'. Keep your documents tight, and check those new rules before your visa interview date, or you'll find yourself at the chop bar more frequent than you would like. My people, I just had to share my experience yesterday. I completed dey plan sef for how to relocate back to Naija from this China place I dey. Dem say make I no worry o, but wetin I go do without my family and all the jollof and akara wey I no go find here again?😂👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 How far, life be like that - always moving, no wahala.

This week, I ran into a fellow Nigerian who just came back from home. E be like say seeing him was a mirror showing me the way home. He nearly almost shed crocodile tears when he was telling me about the excitement of hearing his local dialect again and just the sense of belonging. I swear I felt something inside me when I heard that story.

So, living in China and that life here has got me thinking about raising a family and all that jazz. Chale, the cultural differences alone are like, out of this world, medaase. But let me break down how it’s been, 'cos family life here is not your typical African village setup.

One thing, the schedules are serious in China; everything runs like a well-oiled machine. For kids, that means a lot of school, even on weekends sometimes. The focus is on academics, no time to waste. The pressure! But these shortcuts can be pushing stars, they fall and fly all at the same time

Good thing is, you get support from the community in raising the kids. They got this collective rearing where everyone pitches in. It's random, but it works, abi? Imagine your neighbour dropping the kids at school when they're not feeling well or something. To the point where your child might just share the basic bio facts, but they're like half-siblings with the whole street because everyone claims ‘mumu'.

Teaching them the language has been an adventure, plenty of L's taken. But when you see them transition - from ya fun twi and pidgin夹杂普通话 - to speaking like mini Chinese national treasures, it’s all worth it. I’ve named this game Triple Lingual Toddlers.

Family outings are top-notch too. Visiting ancient sites is basically like living history books. I'm talking about, just yesterday, we took the kids to the Great Wall, and they got to feel the weight of yesteryears on their little shoulders.

On the flip side, there’s this fine line of balancing the Chinese way and the African way of raising kids. Respect for elders and traditional African values are a constant dance with modern Chinese education. The clash is real but learning how to mesh them is like a full-time gig

Nkem, my 11-year-old, has been struggling with her Mandarin lately 📚. I made her start classes over a year ago, hoping it would be good preparation when the time comes to study in a Chinese university. Well, this week she came home and asked me, “Mom, why do we study HSK?” Instead of getting mad, I picked her brain further, and she went on about how she found the language classes interesting but she'd appreciate more motivation. That got us talking about scholarships! She perked up when I mentioned some of the scholarship opportunities available for proficient Mandarin speakers, including the ones right here in China. It’s not just about getting good grades in HSK levels anymore. There are scholarships tied to language proficiency! 💸 This has opened our eyes to the bigger picture. Now we're both more energized about our language journey. It’s not only about learning a new language but also opening doors to incredible opportunities. I wish I had known earlier... maybe we’d be further along in this journey.
