Hey peeps, been thinking about this China-Africa connection lately. It'sδΈεͺζ― business, it's a pretty strong force too and I'm trying to figure out how we can make it work in our favor here! π‘
I was chatting with this Nigerian guy the other day - he tried this fried bread and chili oil thing from a street stall near his school. Tasted like a mix between puff-puff and Ghanaian yam chips but a lot spicier. We're talking πΆπΆπΆ and it cost him 10 kuai! If we could sell stuff like that back home, it could be totally a win. But think about it, what are those business opportunities we're not fully tapping into?
I mean, e-commerce? Agriculture, maybe? Tech-related stuff? And how can we scale up from this corner to the whole continent? It's not straightforward, there's a lot of wahala. But I think the potential's there. The snacks alone, omo, the snacks... ππ

Y’all remember that time in Lagos, when you just wake up on a Sunday and your cousin is oyinbo decided to start chasing your kids around the house, making them laugh uncontrollably? I had that deja vu moment right here in China. π
My neighbour has a 4-year-old son, a genuinely curious kid who speaks more languages than I care to remember (throwback to the School of hard knocks, Obiwon vibes, abi?π¬). Anyway, this week, this little mugu traipsed into our house while we were having an abeg-o-abeg meal of jollof rice “rice” and beans. He was chatting away with the kids in Mandarin or whatever and my omo was loving it.
He pulled out his toys, every colour of the crayon box basically, and played with my kids. I swear, this Nigerian food was too spicy for him but he tried it anyway (8/10 will hit my mama’s kitchen again), because you know, “when in Rome...” π€ #OyaTryAm #MixAndMatch
I could see it in their eyes, mingling of cultures, and the best part...we were all hooping and laughing like it was our everyday life. Cannot lie, I enjoyed the cultural exchange and seeing my kids adjust so smoothly. Truly, this life in China is not all wahala it’s meant to be. π€·βοΈπY’all remember that time in Lagos, when you just wake up on a Sunday and your cousin is oyinbo decided to start chasing your kids around the house, making them laugh uncontrollably? Alright, I just finished watching this insightful nugget of a video on YouTube, and something stands out π€π. The locals talking about how we Africans in China gotta reciprocate the respect and welcome we're getting back home. Ehen, that struck a chord! #BridgeBuilding πποΈπ

π¨π³π China's influence in Africa keeps growing, I see. Watching this video π Deutschland verliert den Anschluss & verkennt Chinas Afrika-Strategie π©πͺ, and the part that caught my attention is how President Xi Jinping keeps welcoming African leaders, like the President of Namibia #growingInfluence #AfricanUnity. E don set for a new wave of Sino-African relations.

Living in a new country can quietly turn into a routine of work and home, class and home. Before you know it, months pass and you’ve met almost no one outside your small circle.
If you’re in China, don’t let that happen.
Opportunities here rarely show up through isolation. They come through conversations, shared meals, events, collaborations, introductions, and simply being visible. The people you meet today can open doors you didn’t even know existed tomorrow.
Go out. Attend that meetup. Join that community. Start the conversation.
Don’t just survive in China. Build something here.
