Some days, you’re productive.
Other days, you’re just there.
Both are valid.
You don’t always have to have it all figured out.
Be kind to your mind today.

Intensity is not intimacy.
If someone is talking about marriage before they know your favorite book, or if they love your "eyes" but don't respect your "values," be careful. A real relationship is an Engine that needs constant tuning, not just a Firework that looks bright for five seconds and then disappears.

Reading @Akanbi Samuel's piece on Intensity vs. Intimacy really stopped me in my tracks today. That line about the "Engine vs. Firework" hit hard—are we building something that needs maintenance, or just lighting matches and watching the show?
It made me think about how easy it is to mistake speed for substance. Anyone can plan a future with you in their head, but who’s actually showing up to tune the engine when it’s just regular Tuesday maintenance?
It’s really worth the read: https://hafrik.com/posts/19897

Three years ago, we recorded this video and never posted it.
The platform wasn't even called Hafrik yet. It was FLIC, a simple idea to build a community app for foreigners living in China
In front of the camera, Rejoice and Success, two people who believed in the vision before the vision even had a name.
Behind the camera, Andrew shooting it, Lolade holding things together, and myself figuring out what we were even building.
We didn't post it because honestly, we were still becoming.
The name changed. The vision grew. What started as "let's help foreigners in China connect" turned into something much bigger. We discovered that Africans specifically, whether trading from Lagos, studying in Guangzhou, or building a life in Yiwu, had no real infrastructure built for them. No trusted platform. No community backbone. No one on the ground solving their actual problems.
So FLIC became Hafrik.
And Hafrik became the operating system for Africans abroad.
We're posting this now three years later not because it's perfect. But because every big thing starts somewhere small, uncertain, and unpolished. This was ours.
To Rejoice, Success, Andrew, Lolade, and everyone who was in that room thank you for showing up before it made sense to. 🙏🏾

What is it really like studying in China as an African student?
We spoke with students from Nigeria and Tanzania about their real experiences living and studying in China.
From language barriers and culture shock to racial discrimination, freezing winters in Shenyang, and the opportunities that made them come here in the first place.
Their stories are honest, real, and powerful.

WhatsApp/Instagram/Google in China – What’s working for you?
Just arrived or planning a trip? Here’s the real deal on staying connected:
The Block
WhatsApp, Instagram, Google (Maps, Gmail, Drive), Facebook, and X are blocked here without a stable connection tool. Don’t panic—it’s manageable.
What actually works:
WeChat = Everything (chat, pay, mini-apps, life)
Baidu Maps > Google Maps for local navigation (Chinese/English available)
Outlook/Hotmail usually works without issues for email
Bing works for search (international version)
Apple Maps works if you have iPhone
Pro tips:
- Download a VPN before you arrive (if you go that route—test a few, they vary by city/ISP)
- International roaming: from your home SIM sometimes bypasses blocks (but check data costs!)
- Alipay or WeChat Pay are essential—way more important than Instagram access
My question to you:
What’s your setup? VPN, roaming, or full "going local" with Chinese apps? Any apps surprisingly working better than expected?
Drop your tips below for the new arrivals!

Self consciousness is one of the biggest flex we could ever develop, mostly as young people (just don't be overly self absorbed ) and the best way to start or develop this ability is firstly becoming conscious of your sitting position, yeap, as simple as that, other things will follow suit. Basically straightening your spine when sitting. Try this and see its effect over time on your awareness level. Whenever you're sitting down whilst your back is not supported by a chair or anything else, you tend to fold your body forward, so try reminding yourself to straighten your back and sit upright.
Let's know what else is a flex, that you may have and you think others may need to acquire also 😮💨
