China has extended key visa facilitation measures through December 31, 2026, making visa applications easier for many short-term travelers. The update centers on an expanded fingerprint exemption for eligible applicants.
What’s changing?
Based on notices issued by multiple Chinese embassies on December 18, applicants applying for short-term visas with a stay of no more than 180 days may be exempt from fingerprint collection during the visa application process.
Countries already mentioned in embassy notices
The policy has been referenced by Chinese embassies in countries including:
- South Korea
- Sweden
- Saudi Arabia
- Mexico
- Ghana
Note: More embassies and consulates may adopt the same facilitation approach. Always verify with your local Chinese embassy/consulate before applying.
Who still needs fingerprints?
Applicants for visas that typically require a residence permit after entry into China are still expected to provide fingerprints under existing rules. These include:
- D
- J1
- Q1
- S1
- X1
- Z
Why this matters
For tourists, business visitors, and short-term travelers, this reduces time and friction in the application process and supports smoother travel planning.
What you should do next
- Check the official website or notice from your local Chinese embassy/consulate
- Confirm your visa category and length of stay
- Follow updates, as the scope may expand further
