  • So last Sunday my friend and I saw this massive European-style castle-church thing from the road in Ganzhou and we were like “Yo, they built a cathedral here and nobody told us?!”
Looked exactly like those old churches you see in movies: tall spires, stained-glass-looking windows, the whole vibe. We even crossed ourselves out of respect before walking in
We push open the giant doors expecting incense and hymns… instead the lady at the front desk in a suit goes “欢迎光临” (welcome) and hands us a room-rate card.
Turns out the whole “church” is actually a luxury themed hotel called FUHOME. The altar area? Reception. The “chapel”? Lobby with chandeliers. The confession booths? Probably some VIP suites now
We stood there for a solid 30 seconds with our mouths open, then started laughing so loud security thought we were drunk. Took this photo right after and left because we definitely couldn’t afford to confess our sins in 5-star beds that night.

  • How to Order Food in China Without Speaking Perfect Chinese (Works 99% of the Time)
    Step 1: Open WeChat/Dianping/Alipay
Step 2: Scan the QR code on the table (almost every restaurant has one)
Step 3: Menu pops up with photos + English/translation
Step 4: Point at pictures, choose, pay instantly
Step 5: Food arrives in 5–10 mins. No talking needed
Bonus hack: If there’s no QR code, open your camera, point at the Chinese menu, and use the built-in translator (WeChat & Alipay both have it). Magic.
I used to be terrified of ordering. Now I eat like a local every day.
What’s your best food-ordering hack in China? Drop it in the comments!

  • Culture Shocks That Actually Made Me Love China More
When I first landed in China I was NOT ready
    1. Breakfast is a full meal at 7 a.m.: baozi, doujiang, youtiao everywhere!
    2. Paying with cash = getting stared at like I’m from another century
    3. Personal space doesn’t exist on subways (instant group hug)
Now these are the exact reasons I never want to leave. China feels ALIVE.

  • The One Sentence That Unlocked Real Chinese Friendships
Before: “Nǐ hǎo” → conversation dead in 3 seconds.
    Now I say:
    “能教我一句地道的中文吗?”
(Can you teach me one authentic Chinese sentence?)
People light up, teach me slang, add me on WeChat, invite me to dinner. Works 100% of the time.
Try it this week and thank me later
What’s your best phrase for making Chinese friends? Comment below!

  • The first week I arrived in China, I couldn’t access half the apps I used every day. Google, Instagram, YouTube—all blocked. I felt cut off.
That’s when I learned the importance of a VPN. Hafrik VPN keeps you connected, fast and secure, so you never miss a beat.

  • Before I came to China, I thought adapting would be impossible. But after a week, I realized: if you can order food, ride the metro, and say “谢谢” (thank you), you’re already halfway there.

  • Once, I joined a group of locals practicing Tai Chi in the park. I didn’t know the moves, but they welcomed me with smiles. Sometimes, you don’t need language—just willingness to try.

  • China makes you redefine distance. A “short trip” can mean 2 hours on a train. And people will still say, “It’s nearby.”

  • The first time I tried stinky tofu, I almost walked away from the smell. But locals convinced me to try. And you know what? It wasn’t bad at all. Crispy outside, soft inside, full of flavor.
