Guangdong Province has recently introduced new regulations that will significantly impact foreign professionals working within the region, particularly those in the technology and innovation sectors.

Among the most notable changes is the new provision allowing foreign tech talent, already employed full-time in Guangdong, to take on part-time work under specific conditions.

As outlined in the Guangdong Science and Technology Innovation Regulations, which will take effect on October 1, 2024, foreign tech talents who are fully employed in Guangdong can legally engage in additional part-time jobs. This flexibility is granted provided they have obtained consent from both their primary employer and the prospective part-time employer. Additionally, this arrangement must be filed with the relevant municipal government departments.

This new policy is a significant development for foreign tech talents in Guangdong. It acknowledges the growing need for flexibility in employment and allows professionals to diversify their work experience, contribute to multiple projects, and expand their professional networks within the province.

Meanwhile, the process of obtaining work-related residency permits has been simplified. Those holding a talent visa can directly apply for work-based residency permits upon arrival in the mainland of the Greater Bay Area, bypassing the previously required work permit application.

This policy change reflects Guangdong's commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for foreign talent. It also highlights the province's recognition of the critical role that flexibility plays in today's rapidly evolving job market, particularly in high-tech sectors where innovation is key.
